THE NM DREAM TEAM IS THE LARGEST IMMIGRANT YOUTH-LED NETWORK IN NEW MEXICO AND IS COMMITTED TO CREATE POWER FOR MULTIGENERATIONAL, UNDOCUMENTED, AND MIXED STATUS FAMILIES TOWARDS LIBERATION THROUGH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, POLICY RESEARCH, CURRICULUM BUILDING AND GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING. OUR MISSION IS TO CULTIVATE AND DEVELOP LEADERS FOR THE UPCOMING GENERATIONS BY USING INTERSECTIONAL, GENDER AND RACIAL JUSTICE FRAMEWORK.
ON THE GROUND, GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING. THOSE IN THE FIELD DEPARTMENT ARE ENGAGING DIRECTLY WITH THE COMMUNITY. OUR FIELD TEAM HELPS CREATE SPACES FOR IMMIGRANTS, BIPOC AND LGBTQ YOUTH AND FAMILIES TO ORGANIZE AND BE CHANGE MAKERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. NMDT FIELD IS MADE UP OF SCHOOL-COMMUNITY CHAPTERS IN LAS CRUCES, ALBUQUERQUE, AND SANTA FE AREAS.
THE UNDOCUHEALING PROJECT WAS STARTED TO FACILITATE THE INCORPORATION AND DAILY PRACTICE OF SELF-LOVE, COMMUNITY HEALING, AND WELLNESS WHEN ORGANIZING IN TIMES OF TROUBLE, TURBULENCE, AND CHAOS. WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT MUCH OF OUR COMMUNITY IS UNDER HEAVY PRESSURE, HIGH LEVELS OF ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, PANIC, AND IN STATE OF PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS.
WE UNDERSTAND OURSELVES AND OUR COMMUNITY TO HOLD COMPLEX AND MULTILAYERED IDENTITIES, ONE OF THOSE MULTILAYERED IDENTITIES IS BEING BOTH AN IMMIGRANT AND QUEER. MANY IN OUR COMMUNITIES ARE SHUNNED FROM THEIR FAMILIES OR OTHER SPACES SIMPLY FOR WHO THEY LOVE OR THEIR GENDER EXPRESSION. NMDT IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDE A COURAGEOUS SPACE FOR HEALING AND ORGANIZING FOR ALL UNDOCUMENTED, MIXED STATUS AND ALLY QUEER YOUTH WHO WISH TO BE CHAGE MAKERS IN THEIR COMMUNITY.
THE GOAL OF THE EDUCATION JUSTICE POGRAM IS TO ORIENT, MENTOR, PROVIDE RESOURCES AND ADVOCATE FOR UNDOCUMENTED AND MIXED STATUS STUDENTS WHO WANT TO PURSUE EDUCATION. JUSTICE IN EDUCATION MEANS THAT PERSONAL OR SOCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, SUCH AS RACE, GENDER, ETHNIC ORIGIN, OR FAMILY BACKGROUND, ARE NOT OBSTACLES TO ACHIEVING EDUCATIONAL POTENTIAL AND THAT ALL PEOPLE HAVE THE NECESSARY OPPORTUNITIES TO CONTINUE AN EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY.
OUR ECONOMIC JUSTICE PROGRAM SEEKS TO EMPOWER LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANT YOUTH, FAMILIES, AND ENTREPRENEURS THROUGHT EDUCATION, ORGANIZING TACTICS, ADVOCACY, AND LEGAL SERVICES RELATED TO TAX LAW, CONSUMER PROTECTION, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN ORDER TO INCREASE STABILITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR UNDERSERVED MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES IN ALBUQUERQUE AND RURAL NEW MEXICO.
OUR ADVOCACY WORK CONNECTS THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY TO OUR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND REPRESENTATIVES. OUR WORK CONSIST OF POLITICAL EDUCATION, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND POLICY DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS BUILDING POWER FOR OUR COMMUNITIES; ENGAGING WITH REPRESENTATIVE AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AT THE CITY, COUNTY, STATE AND NATIONAL LEVELS.
We have developed a platform to directly improve the well-being and lives of all New Mexicans. Our seven planks include: conducting oversight of and instituting a cap on detention center contracts, making New Mexico a sanctuary state, making college affordable for all, providing professional and commercial licensing for all, transforming education to serve the needs of all students, providing universal health care, and stimulating business and jobs.

NMDT’s innovative civic engagement campaigns are strategized, designed, and executed by immigrant youth. NMDT’s campaigns, and all the work that is derived from them, is driven and led directly by these impacted leaders—trusted members from and for our community. Our campaigns work to educate state leadership as well as the broader public about the rights and opportunities for BIPOC communities.
