Last Thursday, the First Lady of the United States of America, Melania Trump, was photographed wearing, a now infamous green jacket, with a message written in the back that read “I REALLY DON’T CARE. DO U?” before flying to an immigrant children detention center in Texas.

We’ll give you a moment to digest.

Without a doubt, underlying messages were sent with the First Lady’s choice of a jacket.

Melania’s spokesperson responded to the situation stating, “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe”, according to a tweet posted by CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

First of all, this is not just “a jacket”. Wearing it on her way to a children’s detention center is not appropriate. The simple fact that the message on it could be easily thought to be a personal statement, and subsequently, her husband’s administration’s statement, should’ve been a clear reason not to wear it.

She could have easily worn this garment at any other event, many of which, don’t involve her visiting undocumented children in inhumane detention camps.

According to her biography on the White House website, “Mrs. Trump is always bringing children to the forefront of her agenda.” If this is true, then why make the choice to wear something that mocks the more than 2,300 asylum-seeking children who were ripped away from their families.

Apart from being the second First Lady born outside of the United States, she is the only First Lady to be a naturalized U.S. citizen. She, more than anybody in the Trump administration, should be able to relate and understand the reasons why families decide to migrate to the U.S..

It seems more probable this incident is yet another attempt to expose the media‘s short attention span, than a bad style choice made by the First Lady.

The real purpose of Melania’s jacket is to discredit the media by using the jacket as bait to try and demonstrate that the media doesn’t really care about coverage of the incarceration of undocumented children and the forced separation from their parents; and instead show that the media only seeks to bash the administration.

It’s another attempt to keep his followers fooled with the rhetoric of “fake news”.

Well, don’t be fooled!

No jacket can distract the inhumane treatment that these immigrant children and their parents are facing at the moment at our southern border.

No jacket can distract from the horrifying images showing immigrant children locked up in cages, lying on concrete floors, wrapped in aluminum blankets, waiting and hoping to be reunited with their parents.

No jacket can distract from the executive order signed by Trump last week.

Which by the way does nothing but open the door to keeping our immigrant families detained indefinitely, and allowing for other government agencies, like the military, to open up their own detention camps –“as deemed necessary”.

So, don’t fall for it!

Melania Trump could’ve easily worn anything but the jacket. However, the good that came out from this manipulative publicity stunt is the awareness that nothing can distract us from the horrors of the President’s current “Zero-Tolerance” attack on the immigrant community.
